Changes in written style

By late modern English capital letters had begun to be caitalised according tlo the rules we follow today- mainly because 18th century grammarians felt that a system was needed. Previously in Early Modern English, capital loetters were used, as nw, at the begining of every sentence and every proper name. They were also used rhetorically for personified and abstract nouns, writers capitiallised any  noun that they considered important. However, you may still see some of these practices in textrs from the earlhy 18th century. Standardisation was a key event in the 18th century, it was a major factor in 'fixing' English grammar, even if it is clear that not all of these practices have made it to the present day.

Key features i noticed about grammar:

• Negation: constructing a negative in the 18th century is unlike the modern uses of dummy auxilary verb 'do'. Examples here are ' no very uncommon occurrence', 'i know not', 'for windows we have none', 'Italins seem to me have no feeling of cold'.
• Syntax: in this text the syntax differs from modern usage, for example with 'certain it is' the complement comes before the main subject and verb and in 'continies still' the adverb comes after the verb.
• Pronouns: Piozzi's choice of 'one a litlle' employs a pronoun that we now view as archaic and representing a received pronounciation.

As public spelling blunders go, it will surely be recorded as one of the most embarrassing.
And a high school literacy coach is unlikely to forget this grammatical error any time soon.

how do children learn langage?

I think the way children learn language solely depends on the child's upbringing and the more attention from parents to help their child cognitively the easier a child will find it to pick up language. A study I have looked at is the study of genie and genie was a child who was neglected by her parents, not just love and care but also she lacked and contact of speech with her parents, the effect of this left genie unable to ever grasp forming sentences because of her amount of neglect, her brain missed any opportunity to develop in the crucial stages of her life when she needed it so it was too late and her brain size physically decreased as her brain was getting no exercise leaving her unable to form any sentences. Although when she was discovered she was able to learn some words with the help of  phsycologists but that's as much help she could get. I think the main way children learn language is from their parents and with out this nurture it can have a negative effect on a child's future, starting children with easy mono sylabic words helps for a child as it slowly brings them into language and using objects and games helps children a lot too because children are visual learners.

In this extract male and female stereotypes are respresented within this text. For example a typical female role is presented when the lady says 'where do you want me, profesor chadwick?'. This is a typical representation of a female because it is showing a woman ask a man what she should be doing and this conveys more power on the mans side because he has the ability of controlling where she is going and also because he is being adressed with his professional name which reflects the semantic field of authority, hierarchy and contol.
